In recent years, there have been numerous advances in automotive technology. Perhaps the most innovative advance is the advent of Driver-Assistive Safety Technologies. With driver-assistive features, your vehicle keeps you safe using cameras and sensors that monitor your immediate area. Using advanced computers, these driver-assistive features are designed to function on their own without direct driver input. Ford has the next step in driver-assistive features with Blue Cruise. When the system is in place, it permits hands-free driving on certain roads. If you live near Diamondhead, Picayune, or Bay St. Louis, you can explore vehicles equipped with BlueCruise at Geaux Ford.

What Is BlueCruise?

Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free driver-assistive feature designed to make driving a little easier, more enjoyable, and less stressful. The feature is available on over 130,000 miles of North American roadways called Hands-Free Blue Zones. In fact, 97% of controlled access highways are designated as Hands-Free Blue Zones across the U.S. and Canada.

Ford BlueCruise allows hands-free highway driving to make commuting easier or long trips on vacation more enjoyable. You’ll have a mental break and arrive at your destination revived. BlueCruise accelerates, brakes, and steers the vehicle in the lane all with the touch of a button to activate the BlueCruise system.

This technology system remains Consumer Reports’ top-ranked active driver-assistive system for the second time in a row out of 17 systems that were tested, including Tesla’s Autopilot and GM’s SuperCruise. BlueCruise driver-assistive features include Adaptive Cruise Control that maintains the speed you set for your vehicle while still keeping a safe distance between you and other vehicles in front of you. There is also a driver-attention system installed to bring you additional peace of mind as you let go of the steering wheel.

How Does BlueCruise Work?

When you enter a pre-qualified section of a divided highway or a Blue Zone, your vehicle notifies you on the instrument cluster to let you know BlueCruise is available on that section of the road. Once you notice that it is available, you just simply tap the Adaptive Cruise Control button on the steering column and let BlueCruise assist while you pay attention to the road ahead. The driver-assistive features actively maintain your speed and distance, keep you centered in your lane, handle steering, warn you of potential hazards ahead with alerts, and can even help you stop in an emergency.

The system is designed with collaboration in mind and if needed you can manually take over without actively disengaging the Blue Cruise system. When Blue Cruise is engaged, you can switch lanes hands-free while the system repositions you in your new lane to provide maximum room. During hands-free driving, you can catch up on podcasts, take in the scenery, and enjoy your ride more fully while BlueCruise keeps you on course. A BlueCruise driver-assistive camera monitors your eye gaze and head position so you can’t get too comfortable, and you can still keep watch on the road. This feature adds an extra layer of protection during your BlueCruise moments to help keep you safer.
